What was the Battle of White Mountain?

The Battle of White Mountain transpired on November 8, 1620, during the early stages of the Thirty Years’ War. It was a pivotal clash between the Protestant Bohemian estates and the Catholic forces of the Habsburg Empire. The Bohemian insurgents suffered a catastrophic loss in the combat, which lasted only around two hours.

The implications of the battle

  • The end of the Bohemian Revolt.
  • The beginning of forcible re-Catholicization in the Czech territories
  • Harsh repercussions included the execution of 27 Czech aristocratic leaders on Prague’s Old Town Square.
